Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is a straightforward process that allows you to keep your personal files and applications intact. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth transition.
A PC running a genuine copy of Windows 7 Service Pack 1
A Windows 10 license key (available from The Software Kings)
An internet connection
At least 8 GB of free disk space
While the upgrade process is designed to preserve your files and applications, it's always wise to back up your important data to an external drive or cloud storage.
Ensure your system is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1:
Click Start, type winver, and press Enter.
If Service Pack 1 is not installed, download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it.
Visit the official Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10
Click “Download tool now” and run the downloaded file.
Launch the file you downloaded (usually named MediaCreationTool.exe).
Accept Microsoft’s license terms.
Select “Upgrade this PC now” and click Next.

Once the tool runs properly, it will download Windows 10 — this can take time depending on your connection.
5. Choose What to Keep
When prompted, select “Keep personal files and apps” to retain your data and installed applications.
Click Next to proceed.
Click Install to begin the upgrade process.
Your PC will restart several times during the installation. Ensure it remains powered on.
After installation, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
Enter your Windows 10 license key if prompted.
