When downloading Office or Windows, you’ll often be asked to choose between 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
What’s the Difference?
| VersionDescription |
32-bit | Older standard, designed for systems with limited RAM (less than 4 GB). Slower performance, limited support for large files or multitasking. |
64-bit | Modern standard. Can use more RAM (4 GB+), faster, and more stable. Recommended for nearly all current systems. |
How to Check What Your PC SupportsPress Windows + I to open Settings
Go to System > About
Look under System type
You’ll see something like:
“64-bit operating system, x64-based processor”
That means you should install the 64-bit version
No need to choose — Mac apps are delivered in a format suited for your system automatically.
What We RecommendFor most users, 64-bit is the best choice — it works faster and handles more memory.
Only choose 32-bit if:
You’re using an older PC (pre-2010)
You’re running a 32-bit version of Windows (uncommon today)
